Accounting for Non-Accountants

  • About

    My name is Charlie Tilson

I served in The U.S. Marine Corps in Guam and China during World

War Two and was recalled in 1950, training troops for Korea on

    Viequez Island.

I began my career in accounting and then moved into management.

I was guest speaker at several annual conventions of the National Paper

Box ManufacturersAssociation. I was guest lecturer at Radford College.

I was guest speaker at a meeting of the National Association of Accounts.

My article on Cost Accounting in the Paper Box Industry was in the

Prentice Hall Encyclopedia of Cost Accounting. My booklet “Cost Control

By Budgeting” was published by the NPBMA.

I have managed Box Plants and Recycle Paper Mills in the USA,

Guatemala, Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico. I was Manager-Europe

for a consulting service in Brussels, Belgium and was Financial Advisor

for a packaging conglomerate in The Dominican Republic.

While in The Dominican Republic I developed a system to make affordable

houses from laminated waste paper. About 100 units were built in The

Dominican Republic and models were built in Jamaica, Mexico and Ghana.

From 1994 to 2000 I was a consultant to the packaging industry.

From 2000 to 2008 I worked with a small box plant in Florida.

    Today I am self employed.
